There are many jobs for surgical technicans. Each technican could find 5 jobs. The life of a patient depends in large part on the diligence and competence of the surgical technologist. A surgical technologist primary responsibility is to assist the surgeon in the operating room. A surgical technican needs to work quickly and efficiently, as well as carefully and diligently, and they must handle emergencies well on top of being strong enough to witness what they do. Preparing and sterilizing the operating room for surgery, transporting patients, passing instruments to the surgeon, retracting tissues and closing sutures are some of the technican’s duties. Surgeries can be long and complicated and a technologist must stand for hours at a time.
You will need to attend a course for 2 years at a recognized school to enter this field. You have many surgical tech programs to choose from, but people with surgical technologist certification are preferred over those without. You can learn theory and practical studies with certified programs. Anatomy, medical terminology and sterilization are standard courses. Often you can also become an intern under supervision for more practical surgical technology training. Graduation and certification from this type of program generally leads to higher pay as well. You also have the option of specializing in cardiology, working with children or orthopedics instead of working a normal work week.
